What are Serums and Elixirs and why you should use one?
If you are like me, adding another product to my daily routine doesn’t sound appealing. However after doing some research on serums and elixirs, I found that these products aid and rapidly repair your skin’s troubles such as discolorations, age spots, wrinkles, sagging skin, skin texture, and more.
No matter your skin concerns, there’s a serum you can add to your daily beauty regimen to see real results, and quick. But who should use serums? How do you use them? When will you see a difference in your skin? This article addresses these questions and then offers some serum choices that you can use.
Who should use serums?
Serums should be used by women looking to target specific skin concerns, such as age spots, fine lines, expression lines, sagging skin, and wrinkles.
What are serums?
Serums have a lightweight texture and a high concentration of ingredients, allowing high levels of nutrients and vitamins to be optimally absorbed into the epidermal (skin) layers. They also have targeted action to address specific skin problems.
Where are serums applied?
Serums should be used on your face, jaw line, décolletage (upper chest), and neck under your moisturizer. Do not use serums near the eye area unless they are specifically targeted for eyes.
When, and how often, do I use a serum?
After cleansing and before moisturizing. Use your serum day and night unless directions specify differently.
Why should I use a serum?
Adding serums to your skin care regimen makes sense if you want quick results in changing your skin. They deliver high concentrations of anti-aging and repair technology to your skin. They are like a secret weapon and the results are dramatic.
When will I see results?
In younger skin, you should see results within a natural cell turnover cycle, which is about 28-30 days. For ages 40-50, skin cells turn around about every 30-45 days. For more mature skin, it may take as long as 60 days to notice a visible change.
Picking a serum
How to pick a serum depends on your skin concerns, your skin’s level of dryness, and age. I’m sure there are many on the market that are good, but since I am an Avon enthusiast and representative, I put together a list of serums that we offer and their advantages.
Anew Reversalist Renewal Serum – targets ages 35 – 50
Benefits – tightens skin, improves discolorations, and contains 5x more skin repair chemistry than the night cream. With 5x more activinol technology which activates our skin’s ability to repair itself, it also works well on reversing skin damage, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Anew Ultimate 7S Elixer – targets ages 45 – 60
Benefits – boosts youth proteins with 2x more pro sirtuin technology than the night cream, tightens sagging skin, and reverses wrinkles. It contains pro-sirtuin peptides that lengthen the life span of the skin cell resulting in younger looking skin.
Anew Platinum Serum – targets age 60+
Benefits – Contains concentrated Paxillium technology that boosts paxillin production – a key protein that helps cells retain their youthful shape. It lifts sagging skin especially on the jawline and neck and reverses deep wrinkles.
NEW Anew Genics Treatment Concentrate – targets ages 40+ (available in campaign 16)
Benefits – contains twice the Youthgen technology than the popular Anew Genics Night Treatment cream. It is a lightweight formula that softens expression lines, improves skin discolorations and age spots, and boosts skin hydration up to 165%.
You can purchase these serums and elixirs at my Avon Store. I am offering free samples of the Anew Genics Treatment Concentrate – click the Contact Us button on the page to send me an email with your address.

I’ll be 50 this year, and although I don’t have wrinkles YET, I do want to prevent them. I see so many commercials on TV for so many different brands promising to prevent wrinkles, it gets really confusing…and expensive. I have discovered this type of skin care products are expensive. I have never heard of Anew before. If it’s sold in stores, I’ll have to check it out.
Stopping by from VoiceBoks!
This is some great info, I dont have wrinkles, but I need to start putting something on my face to not get them. Thanks for sharing all this great info!
I loved this article! I’m always looking for skin care, and I never really knew the benefits of serums before. I think I’ll add one to my routine:)
I used to have so much stuff to put on my face and body when I was still in my teen years. It would take me forever just to start putting clothes on because I had about 5 bottles or containers varying from lotions, peelers, whiteners, etc. to put on me.
Now I’ve just gotten used to using a facial wash, a toner, and a moisturizer (I love using my son’s Aveeno lotion) on my face. For the rest of my body, I just stick with lotion to help keep my skin smooth.
great tips!
Wow, this is a very detailed and informative site. Luckily, I don’t have any skin issues yet (only 23!) but would this be good to use for preventative measures?
Hi Carrie – at 23 your best defense against premature aging is avoiding the sun and using sunscreen.
I’ve just started using Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum– it has a high rating for low $$ under $20
I use the same one. No one believes that I’m 46, so it must be working. Right?
Thanks for this info! Beauty products baffle me.
I love serums and oils because they just sink in and do what they are supposed to do better than a cream. Love Tata Harper’s and Lina Hanson’s and One Love Organic has one that positively glows!
This is a lot of good information! Thank you for sharing. Feel free to stop by my blog anytime- I host a weekly link party called “This Week the Trend” that I’d love for you to join and I’m currently offering free ad space! I hope you have a great week!

Thanks for the heads up on serums…..so many women don’t take care of their skin until way too late, and past the “expiration date”. Nice to know there’s something for those that waited too long.
